NEW See Our B&B on Google Street Maps at the bottom of this page
The house was built in the mid 1990's, in the
East Bay area of North Queensferry. Our Bed and Breakfast
accommodation is a bungalow with all rooms on the ground floor,
& is suitable for people with walking difficulties.
The village of North
Queensferry is a mixture of ancient and modern, dominated
to the north by an ancient volcanic rock.and to the south by the
Firth of Forth. The village was once the ferry-port from Fife
and the North, across the Firth of Forth & onwards to Edinburgh
and the South. The Forth Bridges now serve the village, and
with the good road network provides easy access to; Dunfermline,
St. Andrews, Perth and Dundee, Central Scotland (Edinburgh,
Stirling and Glasgow), and the Scottish Borders.
The Forth Rail
Bridge was considered one of "The Wonders of the Modern
Age" when it was completed in 1890, over a Century later it is
still A Wonder! Hundreds of trains still cross back and forth
over this magnificent structure. If you're staying in
North Queensferry you must take the train across the bridge to
Edinburgh.
The Forth Road Bridge
was built in 1964, the Road Bridge saw the closure of the Ferries
across The Firth of Forth. It remains the main artery
connecting Fife and the South. Edinburgh City Centre
is only a 25 min. drive & Glasgow is about an hours drive away
from North Queensferry
For those who just want to blow the cobwebs away,
take a stroll up onto the coastal path for magnificent views of
East Bay and the Forth Bridge, continue for less than a mile until
you come to a small bay known locally as Port Laing. It's a
nice place to paddle or just sit and enjoy the view out towards the
North Sea.
Alternatively , stroll around North
Queensferry out towards the Marina, you'll pass houses built in the
early 18th
Century with
marriage lintels above the doorways, (a marriage lintel
traditionally shows the initials of the couple and the date they
married - a fine example can be found on one of the houses in Post
Office Lane). On the way you'll pass the War Memorial and the
Wells that once provided the village with it's drinking water, a
hidden gem is Willie's Well, ask Molly how to find it.

If you go on past The Albert Hotel, (renamed following Prince
Albert's visit to the village); you'll see a what is now a
private house on your right named The Black Cat, but was once
reportedly the oldest pub in the village. Go on to The Old Town
Pier built to accommodate the landing of passengers and goods off
the ferry. It is believed that there has been a ferry crossing
across this point of the river for over a thousand years.
On your way back to the house see Chapel Place and the 14th
century ruined chapel, the Chapel of St James the Apostle, the
Patron Saint of Pilgrims. Founded by Robert the Bruce and
controlled by Dunfermline Abbey, it was abandoned following the
Reformation. Many sailors, drowned during storms on the Forth, are
buried here and some
of the
inscriptions are very appropriate for a sea-faring village.
Go past Helen Place and Malinkie Cottage, this small home was
reputedly the village school over a century ago, and return to East
Bay.
North Queensferry posses everything needed for a
great stay and places to eat, with 3 hotels (pubs), and the award
winning "The
Wee Restaurant", (best to book ahead if you want to
eat there). All within easy walking distance.
Only meters away from our house is Deep Sea
World, is one of the longest underground aquariums in
the world. See sharks, rays, conga eels and a whole array of
fish swimming above and beside you, if you're feeling courageous
you can even dive with them! Enjoy the other exhibits there's a
touch pool and aquariums containing tropical fish piranha and
poisonous frogs.
There have been
sightings of Orca Whales off shore from our B&B. We
sometimes see porpoise so come and Watch the Whales with
us!!
We are 5 minutes from The Rosyth - Zeebrugge Ferry & just over a 2 hour drive
from The Newcastle Ferries, making us an ideal stopping off
point.
On the other side of The Firth of Forth is South Queensferry. From the pier in South Queensferry you can take boat trips to Inchcolm Island and visit its ancient abbey; or take an exciting Seafari speed boat for a speedy trip on the river! You're likely to see lots of sea birds like gannets and the pretty puffins.
The town has lots of cafes and souvenir shops. Also worth a visit are Dalmeny & Hopetoun Houses
Golf: There are over 50 Golf
courses in Fife alone.
With so much to see
and do, whilst staying in a comfortable, welcoming
homey B&B what are you waiting for? Come and stay at "9
